The Totowa Health Department carries out the policies of the Board of Health and the NewJersey State Department of Health The Borough Nurse is in charge of:
Reportable Diseases - Investigation, Case surveillance/follow-up/education
Adult Immunizations - Flu, Pneumonia
Childhood Immunizations -
Free immunization program. Held monthly
Appointment necessary
Sexually Transmitted Diseases - Referral and State notification
Tuberculosis Contro - Referral and State notification. Follow-up and testing
Annual Auditing of all pre-schools and kindergartens
Adult Health Services - SMAC blood testing-offered in spring April/May. Screening provides complete Cardiac risk profile while measuring 23 different elements found in the blood. The screening is instrumental in detecting various diseases in their early state. Fee is approximately $20. Additional testing available for PSA, Lyme, Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, typing and TSH.
Health Fair (held each fall) provides free screenings for Hearing, Vision-glaucoma, Cardiovascular disease, Dental
Blood Pressure Screenings - Third Tuesday of each month 9 -10:30 am at the Totowa Community Center
Flu/Pneumonia Clinic - Free with Medicare # for seniors or those with chronic illness. Held each fall in October/November.
Public Health Home Visits, Public Health Office Visits and Blood-borne Pathogen training.
