For Emergencies/Problems Monday through Friday between the hours of 7:30 am to 3:30 pm please call the Department of Public Works at (973) 956 - 1000, ext. 1071. Any problems after hours, weekends or holidays, you can call the Totowa Police Department at (973) 790-3700.
Billing
​
The Borough is divided into three districts. Each district is billed four times a year, one district per month. Water bills are mailed out the 1st of each month. Collections are due within thirty days. First thirty days no interest charged. Thereafter, the first $1500 will receive interest at 8% per annum. Amounts in excess of $1500, interest at the rate of 18%. Payments can be made in person or at our office, detach the stub and mail payment with check or money order, or you can click on the "PAY ONLINE" icon above. Prior to closing on your home, please call our office a few days in advance to schedule a final water reading.

2023 Water Quality Report
The Borough of Totowa is pleased to present its 2023 Water Quality Report. The Borough is required to distribute this report by the USEPA on an annual basis. Pages 1-3 are the results of Passaic Valley Water Commissions tests performed at the Little Falls Plant before being distributed to Totowa. Page 4 is the result of the tests that Totowa is responsible for performing on its distribution system.
Origin of Our Water
The Borough of Totowa buys all of its drinking water from the Passaic Valley Water Commission (PVWC). PVWC provides the borough with a mixture of water received from North Jersey District Water Supply Commission (NJDWSC) and PVWC’s own supply. NJDWSC sources are two of the most pristine water supply reservoirs in the country; namely the 29.6 billion gallon Wanaque and 7 billion gallon Monksville. NJDWSC also has the ability to pump water from the Pompton River into the Wanaque Reservoir as needed. PVWC treats and distributes its water from the Passaic River. Both sources of water are treated and filtered extensively before it is distributed to the borough and its residents.

Safeguarding Our Water
PVWC and NJDWSC both monitor and test the water at all their sources to ensure its safety and quality. They also monitor and test the quality of the finished water before it is distributed. Totowa performs additional sampling within the distribution system to further ensure the waters quality and safety.

Additional Information
Drinking water, including bottled water, may reasonably be expected to contain at least small amounts of some contaminants. The presence of contaminants does not necessarily indicate that water poses a health risk. In order to ensure that tap water is safe to drink, EPA prescribes regulations which limit the amount of certain contaminants in water provided by public water systems. The FDA regulates establish limits for contaminants in bottled water, which must provide the same protection for public health. The sources of drinking water both tapped and bottled include rivers, lakes, streams, ponds, reservoirs, springs and wells.

SOME PEOPLE MAY BE MORE VULNERABLE TO CONTAMINANTS IN DRINKING WATER THAN THE GENERAL POPULATION. IMMUNO-COMPROMISED PERSONS SUCH AS PERSONS WITH CANCER UNDERGOING CHEMOTHERAPY, PERSONS WHO HAVE UNDERGONE ORGAN TRANSPLANTS, PEOPLE WITH HIV/AIDS OR OTHER IMMUNE SYSTEM DISORDERS, SOME ELDERLY, AND INFANTS CAN BE PARTICULARLY AT RISK FROM INFECTIONS.
